August 2 Champion Raceway, Medford OR - WEST COAST TOP SPORTSMAN Matson Racing was continuing to have mechanical problems with the A/Gas car. Dave had to support Monti who drove the B/Gas car all the way to the final round against Jeff Gillette. Monti red lit allowing Jeff to win the race. Matson Racing has had it's best season yet with 7-1st place victories and has placed 2nd in 5 races. July 20 Infineon Raceway - WEST COAST PRO GAS Matson Racing is continuing to do well despite mechanical problems with the A/Gas car. On July 20th at Infineon Raceway, we broke a camshaft in the car causing some internal damage during 1st round of eliminations in A/Gas competition. Monti Fitzgerald, however, was able to runner up with the other car against Mike Dee. July 11-12 Sacramento Raceway Park - 31st ANNUAL FOX HUNT Dave Matson and Monti Fitzgerald competed in two catergories-West Coast Top Sportsman and West Coast Pro Gas. In Top Sportsman, Dave was able to eliminate the #1 leader in points-Jeff Gillette in the first round. However, the air improved a little too much during the second round causing Dave to breakout against Mike Henry running a 7.49 on a 7.54 dial. In Pro Gas, both Matson Racing Camaros were in the final again. Monti took the win this time with a .013 reaction time to Dave's .024 light. He also ran a 7.61 to Dave's 7.62 ET. Matson Racing has won 7 races this season so far making it the most successful season yet. June 28 Sacramento Raceway Park - WEST COAST PRO GAS ASSN Dave Matson and Monti Fitzgerald competed with both cars in the A gas (7.60) category and were both in the final round. After the prestage/staging games, Monti red lit by -.001 giving Dave his 4th straight win (6 total) for the 2008 season. Matson Racing will be competing in Top Sportsman and Pro Gas at the Fox Hunt, July 12th at Sacramento Raceway Park. There will be free admission for all the ladies. June 21 Firebird Raceway, Boise Idaho - WEST COAST TOP SPORTSMAN Matson Racing has been on a winning streak winning the last 4 out of 6 races. Last weekend at Firebird Raceway in Boise,Idaho Dave won his second back to back West Coast Top Sportsman race. First round was against Irv Wise from Reno, Nevada. Second round was won when Ken Tyrell of Chico red lit. John Campoy from Medford Oregon was the second red light victim. The final was against Jeff Gillette whom also red lit in the left lane. Dave is now second in points behind Jeff Gillette. June 6-7 Sacramento Raceway Park - NITRO NIGHT OF FIRE Dave Matson qualified #6 with a 7.486. He raced Irv Wise in the first round whom red lit. Second round went to Matson with a win over Tyler Polly. Jeff Gillette, losing the semi-final because of transmission problems, gave Dave a good race in the 3rd round off of the foot brake! Matson won the final round against John Campoy (7.49 to a 7.92). Jerry Tittle qualified #12 and defeated Ken Tyrell whom red lit in the first round. Keith White defeated Jerry in the 2nd round. May 30-June 1 Bakersfield, CA - Fuel & Gas Finals-NHRA HERITAGE SERIES Dave Matson was #2 qualifier with a 7.609. The car/driver was extremely consistent all weekend winning the A gas catergory. Matson is only a couple of rounds behind Ken Ratzloff in the points. The final points race of the series will be held in Fontana, CA September 13 and 14th. May 24 Salt Lake City, UT - WEST COAST TOP SPORTSMAN Dave Matson was #5 qualifier with a 7.93. He was quick treed and lost round 2 of eliminations. Jerry Tittle qualified #7 with an 8.00 and went to the semi-finals losing to John Campoy. May 9-10 Sacramento, CA - FREMONT REUNION Dave Matson was #5 qualifier. He cut a .030 light to Tyler Polleys .050 during the 1st round but went too quick with a 7.51 ET on a 7.53 dial. Jerry Tittle was #16 qualifier and went to the semi finals with a personal best ET of 7.57 @ 181MPH. May 2-4 Las Vegas Speed Spectacular - NHRA HERITAGE SERIES Dave Matson was the #1 qualifier with a 7.701 on a 7.70 index. The A Gas car ran deadly consistent all weekend with several ET's ranging from 7.701 to 7.708. He won the race with a .016 reaction time and a 7.71 beating Ken Ratzloff who had a .033 light with a 7.75 ET. Jerry Tittle was unable to drive the B/gas car for this event. Monti Fitzgerald drove and qualified 5th. He lost first round running too quick in round one. April 18-19 Redding, Ca - COOL APRIL NIGHTS Dave Matson raced West Coast Top Sportsman. He qualified #4 and then broke a planetary gear in the second round. Jerry Tittle raced West Coast Top Sportsman. Jerry qualified #6 with a 7.65 E.T. and Nitrous and went to the semi finals. April 11-12 Sacramento, Ca - FUNNY CAR FEVER Dave Matson raced in the West Coast Top Sportsman and Pro gas categories. He was #1 qualifier in Pro gas with a 7.62 and was #4 qualifier in Top Sportsman. He then proceeded to win the Pro gas category and came in second in Top Sportsman. Jerry Tittle raced in the West Coast Top Sportsman and Pro gas categories. Jerry's car was in the process of testing with a 250HP shot of nitrous. He went 2 rounds in each category. March 7-9 Bakersfield, Ca - NHRA HERITAGE SERIES Dave Matson qualified 5th out of a 30 car field with a 7.64 on a 7.60 index (A/gas) and lost second round breaking out with a 7.58 E.T. Jerry Tittle was unable to qualify with a too quick 8.58 E.T. |
